Correcting Buck Teeth As Early As Childhood
Looking at some old buck teeth picture of yours when you were young might remind you of how difficult it was to go through life only because of your condition. Since the condition can be genetically passed to your children, this may explain why some or all of your children have it.
Also known as overbite, the condition is characterized by the protrusion of the upper jaw or some of the upper teeth beyond the lower jaw line. Although it is a common condition among people of differing ages, it is not considered to be normal because it affects the mastication of food. It could also alter the speech of a person, acting as a barrier to properly pronounce words. More so, it can affect their self-image and social interactions since they are most likely to be bullied by school mates.
To eradicate the problems entailed by the condition, the condition itself should be addressed. One of the most common dental applications used to treat it involves the use of specialized orthodontic braces otherwise known as buck teeth braces. Despite the fact that wearing braces still doesn’t affect your child’s susceptibility to bullying and still doesn’t contribute to the improvement of all the lacks that overbite brings up, there is also the fact that it can be corrected.
These braces involve the intertwining of bands, brackets, and wires. The brackets are the ones attached to the teeth, while the wires pass through them and held securely in place with uniquely interwoven bands. As the braces are tightened each month, so does it slowly correct overbite until such a time comes that the big buck teeth are in their right position above the jaw line. It may take years for this correction to happen, but at least it is relieving to know that it is possible.
Buck teeth may not be a serious life-threatening disease, but it has serious implications in a child’s life that may wound him or her for years to come. By addressing it early on, you can prevent your child from suffering poor self-esteem, poor self-image, and you could also enhance his speech and his once-difficult chewing.
