Here are 3 key steps that you need to take if you have chipped teeth.

1)	First and foremost, call your dentist immediately. I have seen people wait and not call, keeping the chipped tooth fragments until their next dental appointment. Do not do this, as waiting will not be helpful at all. If your teeth are chipped, then you need to find out quickly if the blood vessels in the teeth are damaged or not.

2)	Second, if you can still find your chipped teeth fragments, store them in saliva if possible, or milk or saltwater if the former is not an option. I’m sure you have heard over and over again the put it in milk idea, but saliva can actually be better than milk if possible. Again, don’t think the chipped teeth will last long in either saliva or milk, so get help quickly.

3)	Sit down and relax. I know it is hard to not panic in a situation like this sometimes, but panicing will only make it so you don’t think clearly and do not get the help that you need. In most cases, chipped teeth are not that serious of an issue and can be fixed with either a tooth-colored filling, veneers, or a tooth cap and do not even require a tooth canal. Of course, if the tooth is damaged severely a root canal still may be an option.

Hopefully you never have to worry about chipped teeth, but if you do then remembering these three steps will help you greatly when the need arises.
<!--

Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night with severe tooth pain? I have, and I can attest that tooth pain is one of the worst pains to have to deal with. (Just hope that you are not camping when the tooth pain hits you like I was…).

So, what are you supposed to do to get rid of tooth pain? Well, that depends on the causes of the tooth pain. However, there are some things that you can do no matter what the cause is. First, and foremost, call your dentist or find a dentist if you don’t have one or if you don’t like your current dentist! There are medications that you can buy that will help you in the short term, but in the long term you are going to need your dentist or endodonist if you want to get rid of the tooth pain.

Something else that might help you get rid of tooth pain is to take ibuprofen or some other pain killer. Of course, TALK TO YOUR MEDICAL PROVIDER before you do anything and follow all the directions, but this can help ease the tooth pain at least temporarily. Again, this will only be a temporary solution so you need to find a dentist quickly.

For those of you who do not have dentists yet, the internet can actually be a great place to find one to help you get rid of your tooth pain. Try to find some online dentist reviews or forums where you can see what other people think about the dentist. You can also find out critical information like insurance accepted in addition to finding a list of dentists located in your area that will completely take care of your pain.

A chipped tooth can have many different causes. Of course, if you are reading this post that probably means you already have a chipped tooth. If it is the case, then you know how annoying a chipped tooth can be. I use the word ‘annoying’ to describe a chipped tooth instead of painful because at times chipped teeth don’t hurt (speaking from personal experience). Of course, most times a chipped tooth does hurt, so don’t feel like something is extra-wrong if your mouth is in serious pain due to your tooth being chipped.

While the reasons for a chipped tooth can vary, what you need to do in response doesn’t. First, you need to contact your dentist as soon as possible. Even if it does not hurt, contact them and find out what he/she suggests that you do to take care of your chipped tooth. There are several reason why this is important, but not more so than the fact that a chipped tooth can lead to a tooth infection.

If the chipped tooth is small enough then you may not even have to have anything done, but again that is a call your dentist will make. More than likely you will need to have veneers done, and potentially even a cap placed on the chipped tooth, but again this will depend on the severity of the chipped tooth itself. Either way, rest assured that something can be done to fix your chipped tooth so it does not bother you in the future.

Something I have mentioned in my previous posts is tooth veneers, and I imagine many people are wondering what exactly tooth veneers are. And, more likely, people are wondering why they would need tooth veneers and how much the veneers are likely to cost (especially if you do not have insurance or your insurance does not cover it, and you will be paying for the tooth veneers out of pocket).

First, tooth veneers are not used to fill in cavities. As I have mentioned in other posts, tooth veneers are generally used to make your teeth look better. I you have problems with discoloration of teeth, chipped teeth, or teeth that just don’t look right, tooth veneers can possibly help fix those types of problems.

The cost of tooth veneers will vary depending on which kind you get, and which doctor you go to. If you end up going to a dentist in Bevelry Hills, then you might pay more than if you go to a dentist in Wyoming. And it will also depend on if your insurance covers the tooth veneers, and coverage will depend on the cause of the problems, as most insurance will not cover tooth veneers just to make your teeth white.

So while all of this sounds fairly complex, it’s really not that bad. You dentist will be able to explain all the advantages and disadvantages of tooth veneers to you if you have any additional questions, and you should ask him or her as many questions as it takes to make you feel comfortable with tooth veneers.

There are many different procedures your dentist may pursue in order to fix a broken tooth. As I have written before, a broken tooth can be one of the most annoying problems you can have with your mouth and you want to get it fixed right away. Today I wanted to share some background information on one option a dentists may decide to go with when fixing your broken tooth – putting a cap on the broken tooth.

A cap may be used instead of veneers for a broken tooth depending on the severity of the break. If too much of the tooth is broken, then you may need a cap. The good thing about these now days is that you probably won’t even be able to tell that the cap is in your mouth. For the most part, your broken tooth, once repaired, will feel just like new.

Another question frequently asked is what do you do if your broken tooth happens while you are going through the root canal process (not a fun process by the way—in case you haven’t had that experience). Many times you have to wait a few days or even weeks in between the time that the dentist or endodontist perform the root canal and the time when you get the cap put on your now-dead tooth. You may break your tooth very easy during this time period because your tooth is now basically dead, so you need to be extra careful or you will end up with a broken tooth.

In this circumstance, if you want to avoid having a broken tooth, then you need to be careful until you get the tooth cap put on. Do not each and chew very hard candy or chewy food, and be careful when you are eating—otherwise you will probably end up with a broken tooth.
