Taking Care of Chipped Teeth - 3 Tips

Here are 3 key steps that you need to take if you have chipped teeth.

1) First and foremost, call your dentist immediately. I have seen people wait and not call, keeping the chipped tooth fragments until their next dental appointment. Do not do this, as waiting will not be helpful at all. If your teeth are chipped, then you need to find out quickly if the blood vessels in the teeth are damaged or not.

2) Second, if you can still find your chipped teeth fragments, store them in saliva if possible, or milk or saltwater if the former is not an option. I’m sure you have heard over and over again the put it in milk idea, but saliva can actually be better than milk if possible. Again, don’t think the chipped teeth will last long in either saliva or milk, so get help quickly.

3) Sit down and relax. I know it is hard to not panic in a situation like this sometimes, but panicing will only make it so you don’t think clearly and do not get the help that you need. In most cases, chipped teeth are not that serious of an issue and can be fixed with either a tooth-colored filling, veneers, or a tooth cap and do not even require a tooth canal. Of course, if the tooth is damaged severely a root canal still may be an option.

Hopefully you never have to worry about chipped teeth, but if you do then remembering these three steps will help you greatly when the need arises.
