Broken Tooth

There are many different procedures your dentist may pursue in order to fix a broken tooth. As I have written before, a broken tooth can be one of the most annoying problems you can have with your mouth and you want to get it fixed right away. Today I wanted to share some background information on one option a dentists may decide to go with when fixing your broken tooth – putting a cap on the broken tooth.

A cap may be used instead of veneers for a broken tooth repair depending on the severity of the break. If too much of the tooth is broken, then you may need a cap. The good thing about these now days is that you probably won’t even be able to tell that the cap is in your mouth. For the most part, your tooth broken, once repaired, will feel just like new.

Another question frequently asked is what do you do if your broken tooth happens while you are going through the root canal process (not a fun process by the way—in case you haven’t had that experience). Many times you have to wait a few days or even weeks in between the time that the dentist or endodontist perform the root canal and the time when you get the cap put on your now-dead tooth. You may break your tooth very easy during this time period because your tooth is now basically dead, so you need to be extra careful or you will end up with a broken tooth.

In this circumstance, if you want to avoid having a broken tooth, then you need to be careful until you get the tooth cap put on. Do not each and chew very hard candy or chewy food, and be careful when you are eating—otherwise you will probably end up with a broken tooth.
